Jake’s Story

College Freshman with ADHD who Improved Grades with EF Coaching

During his first semester of college, Jake, a freshman with ADHD, found himself struggling to keep up with the demands of his new academic environment. Despite his best efforts, he was failing two of his classes, feeling overwhelmed and disheartened by his inability to focus and manage his time effectively.

Determined to turn things around, Jake reached out to his school's academic support center who referred him to us for a combination of executive function coaching and academic troubleshooting for students with ADHD. Together, we developed a personalized plan that included strategies for time management, organization and study techniques tailored to Jake's unique needs.

Over the course of the semester, Jake diligently implemented the strategies he had learned and began to see improvements in his academic performance. He started using a planner to prioritize tasks and break down assignments into manageable chunks, setting specific goals for each study session, and utilizing techniques to help him stay focused during lectures and while studying.

By the end of the semester, Jake's hard work and determination paid off. Not only had he managed to bring his grades up in both of the classes he was initially failing, but he also gained a newfound sense of confidence and self-assuredness in his ability to navigate the challenges of college life with ADHD. Today, we meet with Jake for monthly check-ins to ensure he stays on track.

Jake's success story serves as an inspiring example of how, with the right support and strategies, anyone can overcome obstacles and achieve their academic goals.
